Looking Back At The Axie Community Typhoon Relief Ops
Taking a look at the impact of the Axie Infinity community to Typhoon Odette (Rai) victims in the Philippines.

December 16 marked the first year anniversary of Typhoon Odette, one of the most devastating typhoons to hit the Philippines, ravaging through different islands in the Philippines.
According to a UNHCR report, an estimated 513,000 families, or around 1.9M individuals, were affected by the storm. As per the Philippine Inquirer, the death toll went up to around 407 casualties and damages totaled Php 24.5B ($439M). The blow was somewhat impacted by the generosity by members of the Axie Infinity community, who raised more than $450,000 in donations.
“After the tragedy, I was not expecting that i would receive such help,” Juditha Villariasa, one of the the Typhoon Victims, told the Axie Archives. “Its not easy getting wet as it rains. But with the help of others, I was able to buy and fix my roof and walls. I have my greatest gratitude to those who helped me during this time of calamity. Please tell them how thankful I am!”
Villariasa was just one of the many people that received help from various initiatives that aided relief operations for Typhoon Odette victims. The Axie Community helped victims like Villariasa rebuild lost homes due to the typhoon.
Community donations were channeled through YGG, TQAid, Nixtape, and various other initiatives setup by different guilds and community members last year. Axie Infinity cofounder, Jihoz, and the Axie Sisters were a few of the many Lunacians that aided the Philippines during this devastating time. Members of other blockchain gaming communities chipped in to the cause as well.
