The Era of Intelligent Machines
Before I start my blog, let me give you a couple of scenarios. Please go through it and think about what comes to your mind first.
“The food was burnt because microwave timer was set for too long.”
“The street lights were ON even in the day light”
“The fan was ON even when no one was there in the room”
“The Iron (Press) burnt the shirt because it was too hot”
Can you blame someone for the above situations? Think about it.
Ok, now read the below few lines and think if now you can figure out anything abnormal?
“Tom burnt the food because he set the microwave timer for too long.”
“Jack left the street lights ON even in the day light”
“Mark left the fan ON even when no one was there in the room”
“Bob burnt the shirt because he ironed the shirt when it was too hot”
Can you now blame someone for the above situations?
Yes, now you can clearly blame Tom, Jack, Mark, and Bob for the above situations.
But think about what just happened. Clearly its the fault of microwave that it burnt the food. It's the street light that should turn off on daylight. The fan should turn off when there is no one in the room and the iron should detect when it is too hot and it should not burn the shirt.
But we are not blaming the machines right. We are blaming human beings who were operating those machines. Why? Because inherently, we were taught that humans are intelligent and machines are dumb.
The Rise of Intelligent Machines
All this is about to change. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, the machines are becoming smarter and smarter. It’s not just your smartphone which is intelligent. Now your TV, Washing Machine, Fridge, AC, Microwave are all set to become intelligent.
Till now it was only a part of science fiction but now this is becoming a reality. Let’s see how these futuristic intelligent machines will look like and what all things can they do.
Intelligent Smart TV
Your smart TV will soon become so intelligent that it will know which program would you like to watch on a particular day and time. It will know what sound and display settings would you prefer and it would adjust it accordingly. It will also know if no one is there in the room and will switch off automatically.
It will also show your Calendar, Todo list, Meeting updates. Suppose you are watching TV and you get a skype call, you don’t even need to pick up your phone. You can take the call directly from your TV. This is how the smart TV of the future will look like.
Intelligent Microwave
With intelligent microwaves, settings up timers will be a thing of the past. Now with these microwaves, you just need to place your food inside it. They will automatically know which type of food have you placed. Whether it is Pizza or Chicken or Potato, it will automatically detect the food and with the help of artificial intelligence, it will automatically set the perfect timer for optimum cooking. It will also detect if the food is about to be overcooked or burnt and will immediately stop the cooking.
Microwaves with Alexa inbuilt are already in the market. It is not a thing of the future anymore, that you talk to your microwave and ask it to do certain things just by your voice.
Very soon it will be possible that you keep your food for cooking in the microwave and do your regular work, and when the food is ready, you will get a notification on your phone or TV or even via Alexa notification.
Intelligent Lights, Fans and Air Conditioners
Intelligent Lights, Fans, ACs are already there in the market. With Alexa inbuilt, now you can ask Alexa to turn on or off the Lights, Fans, etc. You can ask Alexa to set the temperature of AC to a certain degree.
There are already some devices in the market that can convert your regular Lights, Fans, and ACs to a smart Light, Fan, and Smart AC. You can just say that you are feeling hot or cold and your fans and ACs will adjust accordingly.
Very soon they have sensors inbuilt so that if there is no one in the room or if it is daylight, the Fan and Light will turn off respectively. These devices will be accessible over the internet so that you can turn them On or Off even when you are away from your home.
There are many more examples which I am sure you will agree that it is not science fiction anymore but its already there in our present. Intelligent machines are here. It's our turn to embrace them and make them a part of our daily lives.
