We recently paid a visit to The Barn, a wonderful new venue that has been especially designed for families to feel welcome. New owner Eva has transformed the area into a lovely, relaxed, bright yet traditional place to eat with a playroom for your little ones.

There’s a super duck pond outside too, with an opportunity for kids to go and feed the ducks.

We spoke to Eva and asked her a few questions:

1. What was your inspiration for opening The Barn?

Well my in-laws use to run The Barn seven years ago so I know the place well. When they moved back to South Africa my sister in law took it on for a while but she also moved back to South Africa and since then quite a few people have tried to run The Barn but no one was prepared to invest money it needed.

The barn is a stunning building and when I was approached by the owner to take it on I decided to go for it and make it my place. It’s not a 5* restaurant but I don’t want it to be. I want people, parents ,kids everyone to feel like at home that’s why it is advertised as a kids and family friendly place because Aylesbury hasn’t got anything like this and being a mother I know how difficult it is when you want to go for lunch with kids.

We took over on the 23rd of December 2018 and we only had two weeks to get the interior ready and also some of the outside area.

All the furniture is second hand and up cycled by myself and all the decor is from all over the world including the coffee cups and mugs.

There is still room for an improvement but we are taking it slowly and we will be making it even more beautiful in the near future.

I always wanted to have a cafe and the barn is more then I hoped for, a beautiful building in the village with great big garden and pond.

2. What’s your favourite dish on the menu?

My favourite dish is posh toast with salmon; I used to make it at home all the time!

This was our favourite too! [See photo below 😉]

3. Do you use local suppliers?

Yes I do use local suppliers.

4. Do you have any future plans for The Barn?

Our future plan is to build the play area outside with climbing frames, swings, slides, play house and trampoline etc. I want to make the garden look pretty for the spring/summer months.

We have got loads of weddings and other parties booked in this year so the garden needs to be ready. We are planning many family orientated events for this summer.”

5. Do you cater for different dietary requirements?

We always have a gluten free cake on offer or even gluten free warm puddings as well as other gluten free and dairy free food. We also have vegetarian options available too…

We highly recommend Eva and The Barn, with it’s warm, friendly atmosphere and lovely touches such as nappies available in different sizes in the changing room (just in case!).

Parking is available and there is plenty of room inside for your buggies and bags too! We are looking forward to our next visit… Sunday lunch next! 😋
