Interning in A Global Remote Organization
Amalia Izzati Hanifah and Muhammad Rifqi Abidin are both fresh graduates from University of Indonesia’s faculty of law who joined as Ayoconnect’s Legal and Compliance interns in November 2020. Read their story to discover their remote internship experience at Ayoconnect.
How was your experience during your first day at Ayoconnect?
We initially had no idea of what to expect in working at a global remote company. We felt a little nervous and unsure, but everyone at Ayoconnect warmly greeted us through various channels on our first day. Such admirable culture and supportive environment has really helped us feel at ease immediately.
That’s awesome! How do you maintain that connection with your teammates?
Our department has catch-ups every Tuesday and Friday to discuss our work. We also enjoy the conversations and pictures we share with each other on our Slack. But more importantly, all of us were constantly trying our best to stay connected with each other. That shared dedication to have an ongoing communication was such an exceptional and precious experience.
Could you share what you worked on during your internship?
Our mentors trust us with various responsibilities; our daily to-do-list consist of researching, providing drafts, translating agreements, and interpreting the latest laws and government regulations that intersect with Ayoconnect’s business.
All of our tasks are truly exciting. They really helped us sharpen our legal analytical skills and improve the technical knowledge needed in our field of work.
Sounds tough 😮 Did you face any challenges?
Both of us are new to the fintech industry, so we had a lot of confusions and questions. Fortunately, Kak Issa and Pak Adika who become our mentors are really humble and kind. They frequently check on us by asking about what we did yesterday, what are the obstacles, and how we overcame them.
We dive directly into the core of each project and at the same time, we are always guided to the right directions. When we are unsure of how to complete a task, our mentors are quick to share their insights and opinions that come from their years of experience. We feel that our mentors sincerely want us to advance both professionally and personally.

All in all, being an intern in Ayoconnect is such an eye-opening and insightful experience. We are thankful for Kak Isa and Pak Adika, who has been such a great leader, mentor by consistently providing us with much-needed support, feedback and insights. This internship experience is really a world-class experience with an exponential learning curve for future career and development.
