What is Nasya therapy in Ayurveda?

The Nasya therapy is part of Panchakarma, which is a form of body cleansing in Ayurveda. Nasya is the term used for administering medications via the nasal cavity. Navana, Nasya karma, etc. are also synonymous with Nasya.

Nasya is a Sanskrit word that means “related to the nose”. In Nasya therapy, Ayurveda treatments are administered through the nostrils. Ayurvedic medicine is infused into the nostrils either in oil or smoke form. Nasya panchakarma therapy is very useful for treating diseases affecting the head region, such as insomnia, stress, anxiety, early greying of hair, and allergies.

Benefits

Clinical trials have shown that Nasya lowers the signs and symptoms of cervical spondylosis. The usefulness of Nasya for myopia has been clinically tested. Pradhamana Nasya is used by ayurvedic physicians to treat chronic sinusitis.
