We at Azimo have a great mission to make a positive difference in the world. For more than 5 years now, we’ve been building the technology to disrupt the finance industry and make sending money abroad as easy and convenient as sharing photos or messaging with your loved ones.

Thanks to our passion and dedication today you can send money with Azimo to more than 195 countries on the world while saving up to 90% money charged by banks and other traditional money transfer services. We make sure that our users’ money remains theirs.

But money transfer services aren’t all. As AzimoLabs, the tech team behind Azimo, we want to make sure that our experience with building technology won’t remain ours and will help the others with making the world better. Not only in money transfer services but with all solutions built on top of technology.
That’s why you can find us talking on conference stages (e.g. Droidcon, Mobiconf), sharing an open source or writing down about our experiences here, at medium.

AzimoLabs internship

Now we are extending our knowledge-sharing activity by launching the AzimoLabs internship program. In summer 2018 we would like to open two positions in our mobile team:

  • Android software engineer intern,
  • iOS software engineer intern.

Program is dedicated to students who want to spend their summertime developing software engineering craftsmanship and gaining all other skills useful when building world-class mobile solutions.

The program

Internship program lasts for three months, from July until the end of September 2018. During that time you will be a member of the mobile team that is responsible for building Azimo for Android and iOS platforms. You will have a chance to see how app delivery process looks like — from drafting ideas on whiteboard or sketchbooks, by coding and testing, to shipping it to production.

During this 3 months period, after the on-boarding process, depending on your skills and preferences, you will work on a project that:

  • Will be implemented in Azimo application,
  • Will be used in Azimo internal processes.

You will also have a chance to publish open source and/or write an article/blog post and publish it under AzimoLabs brand.

We’ll make sure that your portfolio and experience will be significantly richer by the end of the internship program. Moreover, your time will be paid monthly, and you will have the ability to take some time off to rest and chill. And don’t worry about the equipment, our workspaces have everything is needed (computers, mobile devices).

Requirements

Here are some basic requirements regarding your skills to make sure that your and our time is used effectively:

  • You are familiar with Object Oriented Programming, you know (and know how to use) some basic algorithms and data structures, you know how to build unit tests.
  • (Android) You know Java.
  • (Android) You know Android basics. You have built your first (or more) Android app.
Good starting point: Build your first app tutorial.
  • (iOS) You know Objective-C or Swift (we use both).
  • (iOS) you know iOS basics. You have built your first (or more) iOS app.
Good starting point: Start Developing iOS Apps.
  • You know how to use Git repository.
Good starting points: Github tutorial, Learn Git Branching.

Nice to have:

  • You are familiar with Firebase,
  • Your code is available on public git repository,
  • You have been doing online apps programming course (e.g. on Udacity or Coursera),
  • You understand architectural patterns like MVC, MVP or MVVM.

While this can seem a lot, we believe that this bag of experience can be gained independently, thanks to materials which are available free online. When it’s done, it should be enough to make sure that you and us have profits from working and learning together. Thanks to this solid ground and experience gained during internship, we are sure that when internship is over, you will be able to continue your professional career as a mobile software engineer.

The team, the place

You will join small but versatile mobile development team at Azimo and work from our office on Karmelicka 27 street, in Kraków. Our skills are centered around Android and iOS app development, but as a team our skillset includes data science and AI, design and UX, automations (from automatic testing infrastructure, to CI/CD, to internal processes automation).

While at Azimo we have a freedom of choice between remote and in-office work, we believe that at the beginning it’s crucial for gaining experience to see each other every day. That’s why we’ll be pleased to spend the time working together in our Krakow office.

The reason why

While we believe that candidates have their own reasons to spend summertime with us, you can be curious what is our reason behind it.
First was explained earlier. We believe in contribution toward making the world a better place. Each of us was at the beginning of the professional career at some point in the past. And many of us were fortunate enough to meet someone who helped with making a first steps in our career.
Besides that we are sure that we can also learn from you. We have experience, but you have a fresh look that we would love to meet. We can’t wait to hear your ideas and thoughts regarding code, processes and our product. That’s why giving us a feedback will be one of yours responsibilities (similarly like ours).
Last, we strongly believe that process of teaching and learning can be full of fun — for you and for us. It’ll be summer time, what can be better than cracking some code? 🤓
