These days I’m helping one of my clients pass a security audit to become certified. One of the requirements heavily concerned me — the system must be resilient to DDoS attacks.

Microsoft Azure provides a DDoS Network Protection service, which protects up to 100 public IP addresses from distributed attacks. The service also includes real-time monitoring, logging, and actionable advice.

However, the cost has always been a problem. Drum roll… $3,000 monthly. A handful of enterprise customers can afford this, but a cheaper option has never existed before.

Eventually, Microsoft offered an alternative — the Public IP DDoS Protection feature was released in preview. You get all features of the DDoS Network Protection plan, but you pay per public IP. The price is $200 per address per month.

I feel comfortable with the new feature. We will pay for one or two IP addresses, which is enough. The good news is that the client doesn’t need to take a loan to pass the audit.😊
