Adults who didn’t forget how to be a kid

Everyday is a beautiful day for lessons! My student is a new mom who really can’t wait to ride bikes with her kids and keep them safe! And I’m here for it 💪🏽🤙🏽🤘🏽🚴🏼‍♀️

Being an adult who is learning to ride is a vulnerable place to be emotionally. And I’ve seen some shy away. They shy away from the challenge.

And that’s okay too.

Another beginner-intermediate student Sunday is getting ready for a college trip where they’ll study urban planning and ecology — And will ONLY use bikes as transportation while in Europe!

As a society, we have antiquated ideas about wealth and culture: mowed laws, fancy big cars, fast action, convenience.

But we’ve come to a crossroads: we know now the importance of biodiversity, alternative transportation, the slow life, and unplugging.

We still individually have to choose. What kind of future we want to create is up to those collective choices. And I see the shift. And I want to validate the courage sometimes it takes.

I’ve been that clumsy beginner before and felt the vulnerability. For me — even with yogi awareness — I felt challenged to continue.

Then I told myself — if I were still a kid, I’d pick myself up, dust myself off, laugh, and keep going! I reminded myself how it can be fun to play, to learn, to sometimes make mistakes and learn more!
