The 4th Edition of the Blockchain for Humanity Awards is around the corner. Despite the challenges encountered with a year filled with ‘alternatives’ to cope with a pandemic and resetting priorities; the Applications received for the b4H Awards tell a story worth sharing.

You would agree that this year opened the gates for a multitude hackathons around the world. People that had never heard the word hackathon, were actively hacking with a real purpose. Now that they had the time to expand their interests and priorities; the collaborative and creative energy was filling the hearts. COVID triggered innovation and collaboration and the feeling that under adverse times, we can pull resources together and make it work for everyone.

As we started to feel the effects of the lockdown around the world, something special was cooking on the creatives minds. In a number of b4H Fireside Chats and Virtual Community Gatherings, Blockchain for Humanity found support, enthusiam, and hope from likeminded individuals to keep working on ideas that lift humanity.

Nominations are still coming, it is not surprising that many of applications show the development of ideas and concepts in areas such as: — Community development, — Socio-economics development, — Financial inclusion, — Governance, — Sustainable Production, — Health and Wellbeing, — Human Rights, — Social inclusion, — Education, — Environmental Protection and — Traceability. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense to be driving technical development on these areas.

Blockchain for Humanity is purposed to encourage and support technology that delivers prosperity and addresses existential problems for humanity (most of which have been carried over from previous centuries). With a defined mission to help address gaps around Inclusion (inequality), Trust (security) and Empowerment (identity and transparency), it would be through social innovation that this mission would be advanced.

While applications are still being reviewed, it is encouraging and inspiring to receive nominations from all over the world: Japan, Mexico, Uruguay, Spain, Luxembourg, Guatemala, USA, Italy, El Salvador, Brasil, and list continues.

The awards recognize social innovation ideas that use the Blockchain technology. No doubt that the complexity of Blockchain and other emerging technologies is still prevailing and most in the space can experience its lack of maturity. However we are at an intersection of need and want and ultimately driven by the individual and collective choices of people that reflect desires and priorities.

The b4H Awards look forward to recognizing next batch of ‘Dreamers’ (early stage project with a sound concept) and ‘Shapers’ (startups with a products and a validated product-market fit) that demonstrate commitment to improving the social fabric. Learn more..

Over 22 projects have been recognized through the b4H Awards since its inception in 2017. After receiving hundreds of applications, b4H has seen the evolution of the technology application and the validation of use cases that justify the use of Blockchain.

#b4H2020AWARDS Applications closing on Nov 15, Awards will be announced at the next edition of LabitConf in early December.
