First off, I wanted to thank Consul General Dr Kreibich for coming to speak with us. It was very informative to hear about her experiences and predictions for the future. It was interesting to learn more about German sustainable energy and how it has changed over time. The one thing that caught my ear during the talk was that a lot of Germans actually wanted to bring back at least some nuclear energy based on a recent poll. She talked a lot about how the Russia-Ukraine conflict has caused problems with German access to energy.

I also found it interesting how she talked about the blown up pipelines between Germany and Russia. She said that we will never really find out what happened and that no one really wants to look into it further. I decided to do some more research and look into the specifics more.

According to the Guardian, researchers in Norway confirmed that there were four explosions. Swedish investigators have also confirmed that these were man made explosives. The German and US press have said that evidence leads to a group which backs Ukraine but is unaffiliated with Kyiv. However, this isn’t certain and others point at Russian ships. The question that I wanted to ask was whether some Germans want the return of nuclear energy purely because of this conflict or also for other reasons.

When we arrive in Germany I would like to talk to people there whether it be normal civilians or if we get the chance to ask someone from parliament. I’d like to ask them what they think about moving into a direction of one hundred percent sustainable energy. I wonder if there will be a difference between people in different cities due to the political parties who are prominent in that area. I also want to see the different sources of energy right now and how they operate in Germany. Once again it would be interesting to see if there are more of certain types in the different cities we go to.
