Hamburg: A Visual Diary

Our class visit to Hamburg was brief, yet extremely memorable. Here are some of my personal favorite highlights of our time there.

Built to Perfection: From the iconic red brick to the enthralling gothic architecture, Hamburg is quite literally a site for all eyes. For anybody travelling there soon, I would recommend you charging your phone beforehand or bringing a portable charger because you will be taking pictures of every street you walk down… except maybe when you’re in HafenCity.

For the foodies: Given Hamburg’s proximity to the water, they are known for having amazing seafood. As an advent seafood lover, I can confirm that the fish in Hamburg is the best dinner pick for anybody visiting and always cooked to perfection.

A Hub for Innovation: This picture might not look like much, but it’s a shot outside of Hamburg’s hydrogen plant. Between this and Airbus factory (which sadly could not be pictured), Hamburg rises to the esteem of a city encompassed by manufacturing innovation and excellence within the European continent.

Container Capital of the World: Hamburg is known as Germany’s “Gate to the World” and for a good reason. In 2023 alone, the Port of Hamburg handled 8 million Twenty-foot Equivalent units. During our class boat tour, we saw numerous container vessels including the 2nd biggest one in the entire world!

City of Carpets: A fun fact about Hamburg is that it is the city that is the traditional hub of the European carpet trade. In Hamburg, trucks arrive almost daily to deliver their valuable carpets to the forty or so remaining carpet dealers in the city. As mentioned, Hamburg is a tapestry of iconic buildings and architecture, and some of those buildings may have more stories than what their appearance bestows upon the eyes.

Thank you Hamburg for a brief, but enlightening and exciting time!
