Hallo!

My name is Amy, and I am from New York City. I am a current sophomore at Babson College, and I am considering a concentration in Accounting and Legal Studies.

To begin with, my motivation to take this course is rooted in my desire to understand the intersectionality between political and economic factors that can influence a nation’s commitment to sustainability. Last semester, I took a political science course and gained insights into political economics, policy formations, and governance structures. As I reflect on the knowledge that I gained, I find myself eager to deepen my understanding of these topics, particularly in the context of Germany, given its historical background.

I am also interested in the labor market disparities, which I plan to explore in this course. My passion for this area of interest began when my classmates and I launched a water bottle sleeve business that utilizes fabric scraps to combat textile waste within the fashion industry. However, as I delved deeper into the project, I discovered that the impacts of fashion extended far beyond the environment. Instead, I discovered cases of human rights abuse, unsafe working conditions, and unfair worker wages. As an entrepreneur, I hold myself accountable for advancing ethical practices in the workplace. Thus, I look forward to learning more about social sustainability in the context of worker rights.

I am excited to visit Stuttgart in Germany for its beautiful architecture incorporating tradition and contemporary designs. I also want to go to the Mercedes-Benz Museum to look at vintage cars on display and see the museum’s structure in person.

Finally, one question I have is how does Germany’s political economy foster innovation? Are there any incentives or policies in place to encourage sustainable development?

Bis Bald!
