This Valentine’s Day, Let’s Talk Sex and Technology

These days, it seems like there’s an app for everything: ordering a latte at Starbucks, monitoring sleep performance, and even alerting a movie-goer to the best times for a bathroom break.

So when Dr. Lyndsey Harper, M.D., a trusted Ob/Gyn in the Dallas community, approached Dialexa Labs in 2018 about utilizing technology to develop a bold solution for the more than 31 million women in the U.S. dealing with decreased sexual desire, it just made sense that there could be an app to help couples restore intimacy back into their lives.

For the past several years in private practice, Dr. Harper had noticed a trend amongst her patients who expressed significant challenges in their relationships due to a decreased interest in sex with their partners. As she searched for answers for these women, she discovered that a tremendous gap existed in the medical field when it came to women’s sexual health — and she was ready to fill that void with a modern solution.

Over the next year, she and the Dialexa Labs team worked together to develop and launch Rosy, a mobile app designed to provide women with evidence-based resources to improve sexual interest and libido. Through educational videos, romantic and erotic short stories and pre-recorded sessions with a psychologist that helps explore intimacy in a practical way, Rosy provides women with practical ways to improve their own health and their relationships, all while reassuring them that they are not alone.

Since its launch on Valentine’s Day 2019, Rosy has been downloaded more than 12,000 times and 2,400 healthcare providers have signed up to receive educational materials about Rosy to share with their patients. And these numbers continue to grow.

With 38% of women experiencing low sexual desire, and virtually no resources available serving this market, sex tech apps and products are more important than ever for our health and wellness. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we’d like to share a few examples of the innovative ways technology is helping Cupid aim his arrows this year:

  1. Rosy

Rosy starts a conversation and connects the millions of women with a low sexual desire to valuable resources in a fun, relatable, and convenient way. It is the ultimate resource for women looking to improve their sexual health and overall well-being.

2. Unbound

Unbound is re-thinking female sexuality with minimalist sex tech toys and jewelry created with a woman in mind.

3. MedAmour

MedAmour is an online resource and marketplace offering products to assist with sexual health needs. Their products are safe, high quality, and designed with the latest innovations to improve your sex life.

4. SexKeeper

Sex has many benefits including getting your heart rate up and working those muscles. This app will track how many calories you burned and recommend positions to improve performance.

5. Love Nudge

Intimacy isn’t always just about sex, and Love Nudge helps couples be more intentional about expressing their love for each other with reminders and tips.

Valentine’s Day may just come once a year, but prioritizing intimacy with your partner is something that will benefit you the whole year through. A healthy sex life with your partner has been shown to improve relationships, boost confidence and increase self-esteem.
