Off-Site, Automated backups for the UniFi Dream Machine & UDM Pro

It’s no secret that we provide solutions for backing up UniFi controllers to your own cloud storage like MS OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, S/FTP, AWS, Backblaze and more. But there are a couple of nuances to get UniFi’s UDM line accessible over the internet to so our tool can back it up.

First thing you will need is a free https://www.backifi.com account.

The things you will need to do to get your UDM or UDM Pro setup and accessible by our system.

Setup Firewall rules

Go to Settings -> Routing & Firewall -> Firewall.

Create an https traffic group

Then click on Groups -> + Create new group

Name: WAN Access, Type: Port, Port: 443 . Click save .

Create an IP Address Group

Again click on Groups -> + Create new group

Name: BackiFi IP, Type: Address IPv4, Address: 13.237.158.79. Click save .

Link the two together in a WAN LOCAL rule.

Go back to Settings -> Routing & Firewall -> Firewall -> Rules IPv4 -> Wan local

Click CREATE NEW RULE and use these settings

Name: Something like BackiFi WAN Access
Enabled: ON
Rule applied: Before predefined rules
Action: Accept
IPV4 Protocol: TCP
ADVANCED: leave defaults

SOURCE:
Source Type: Address/Port Group
IPv4 Address Group: BackiFi IP (IP Address Group you just created)

DESTINATION:
Destination Type: Address/Port Group
Port Group: WAN Access (Port Group you just created)

Click Save .

This setup should work for conventional UDM and UDM Pro configurations. You should now be able to log into BackiFi and add your UDM on the Controllers page by using https://<<public url>> or https://<<public IP>>. You do not need to add a port number with this configuration. However if you are still having trouble linking your UDM range device to BackiFi, please drop us an email on yo@backifi.com.
