Church of England Sets Its Face AGAINST Same-Sex Marriage
Never underestimate the propensity of the Church of England to shoot itself in the foot.
New proposals from the Church of England bishops will make a slight shift in church policy and offer blessing services for LGBTQI+ couples.
However, the proposals stop short of permitting same-sex marriages in the Church, which is part of the global Anglican Communion.
There will also be a letter of apology for the “rejection, exclusion and hostility” that LGBTQI+ people have faced in churches and the impact this has had on their lives. This letter is currently being drafted and will be released later this week, according to reports today (January 18, 2020).
On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, an in-person meeting of the College of Bishops considered the path ahead for the Church of England on issues of identity, sexuality, and marriage was held.
This meeting marked the conclusion of deliberations that began six years ago under the umbrella of “Living in Love and Faith” (LLF), in which participants were asked to share their learning, insights, and reflections using online tools and regional meetings.
