Dear Sinner,

If there’s one thing I am very proud of, it’s my humility.

You may find it hard to believe, but I wasn’t always this humble. Mastery of self takes many years. Of course, this is the goal of the Christian faith: to master yourself to the point where you live virtually sin-free.

After all, if you want God to even cast a second glance toward a hopeless sinner like you, then you’d better get a handle on all the wicked things you do and eventually manage your sin out of existence.

That is why I am writing today.

As someone who has almost completed this journey myself, I write to those who are not so far down the road of getting rid of all the sins in their lives.

You, for example.

But take heart. I am an expert at sin avoidance and mastery. I have spent decades believing that God will only accept me if I’m perfect, so I’ve spent far more time than is healthy cycling between sinning and repenting, sinning and repenting over and over again.

That’s what God would want.
