LAST AUGUST I STOPPED POSTING because while recovering from serious abdominal surgery which left the underlying condition unresolved and resulted in further damage to my kidneys and low blood pressure. As a result I’ve been listless and finally taking a break from writing for platforms whose limited income streams demand constant posting to generate meaningful revenue.

On top of that a driver in a three-quarter ton pickup rammed the back end of our Honda. He was on his phone. After several weeks of telling us nothing about progress on repairing our vehicle, his insurance company declared it a total loss and forced us to find a replacement car immediately since they would no longer cover the rental car. Our insurance agreed to take over the claim, giving us exactly one more week to find a replacement vehicle. We don’t know when they will pay the claim, so we are financing the replacement car and crossing our fingers. We will still have to exhaust our savings to make up the difference in the replacement car’s cost.

On top of this our 16 year old rescue dog died in the night, and, on the same night, so did a rescue cat who had worked harder than any cat we’ve fostered to socialize himself. (I’m serious. He’d already been returned twice…
