Last night, my wife and I argued because she felt I wasn’t taking her concerns about Trump’s second term as seriously as I should. This morning, I listened to a couple of podcasts that left me terrified of a second, less inhibited, more empowered Trump administration.

Many Americans are grappling with anxiety right now because it’s hard to predict what Trump might do. Trump’s own supporters do not believe he’ll do what he says he’ll do. His critics increasingly take him at his word.

Those critics — including me and my wife — fret about Trump surrounding himself with even more “Yes Men” than he already has, removing the obstacles to his policies that prevented or mitigated his worst ideas in his first term. We’re scared of Project 2025 and the people behind it.

I’ve been binging news podcasts to better understand what the hell happened in this election and to anticipate what might come next.

Some of what I’ve learned reassures me that Trump’s second term won’t be as empowered, competent, and terrible as I feared — hence why I played down the latest outrages of Trump’s transition plans when my wife told me about them last night.
