What If “We All Deserve Death” Is the Biggest Lie in Christianity?
Rethinking Sin, Justice, and the God Jesus Actually Revealed
The other day, my son did what every kid does — he lied.
It wasn’t some grand, malicious deception. It was the kind of lie kids tell instinctively, usually to avoid getting in trouble. I asked him if he had cleaned his room — something I’d been bugging him about for a few days.
He confidently said, “Yep.”
But when I walked in, I was hit by the unmistakable stench of teenage boy. Dirty socks balled up in corners. Empty chip bags crammed between the bed and the wall. A half-empty Gatorade bottle that had been sitting on his desk for so long I was afraid to open it. His version of “clean” was apparently just closing the door and hoping I wouldn’t check.
So, yeah. He lied.
It wasn’t a grand betrayal. It wasn’t some deep moral failing. It was just a kid trying to avoid a lecture. And what did I do? I didn’t explode in anger. I didn’t declare him unworthy of my love. I didn’t tell him he was irredeemable. I sighed, reminded him (again) why honesty matters, and told him to actually clean his room this time.
Because that’s what a reasonable, loving parent does.
