Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s homily at Washington National Cathedral was nothing less than a masterclass in Christian courage.

It was the kind of homily that makes you sit up a little straighter and wonder if you’ve been taking the Gospel seriously enough. Her message was simple yet profound: mercy is not weakness, humility is not optional, and if you’re in a position of power, maybe try helping people instead of scaring them.

Radical stuff, right?

Naturally, Donald Trump heard this and immediately did what Donald Trump does best: throw a public tantrum. Taking to his trusty Truth Social platform, he labeled Bishop Budde a “phony Christian” and accused her of spreading “radical left hate” disguised as faith. He even threw in a few digs about her sermon being “boring” and “uninspiring,” which, let’s be honest, is exactly what someone an insecure man says when they’ve just been publicly called out and embarrassed.

There is no capacity for thoughtful introspection. There is no ability to examine his own heart. Instead, we get anger:
