My Partner Wears Roller Skates
And I am usually hobbling along behind him
It is said that opposites attract. We are a living, breathing example of this universal idea. Living with a partner who you have used all of your medical expertise to diagnose with ADHD can be challenging. It can also be amazing, exciting, fun, and exhausting. It all depends on the day.
As it is with most couples over time, the very thing that drew me to Sean, is the very thing that tires me out now. Thirteen years in, I have learned to roll with the excitement and bow out when necessary. We start our mornings early. I don’t mean average people early. I mean that I am sure there are imaginary cows to milk somewhere early.
From there, we are running. Sean works in the trades and starts early, sometimes finishing late. I work in education and spread myself between multiple gigs. Our weeks are long. We try to plan and meal prep. We try to stay on top of things. Sometimes it even works.
Our weekends are just as busy. On Saturdays, Sean golfs (weather permitting), or skis, or hikes, or God Knows What. There are social engagements, lots of social engagement, weekend trips, lots of weekend trips, and regular weekly housekeeping tasks that must get done.
I have always considered myself pretty social. I love an adventure. I love to connect with people…
