Exploration of Motivation

Motivation is so crucial to any job being accompolished. The reason anything at all is accomplished is because someone somewhere is motivated enough to do it. We are motivated by hunger to eat, tiredness to sleep, different needs and desires. We will put our efforts into things that we care about to get the results that we want. Therefore being able to motivate others to achieve goals, accomplish tasks and meet deadlines is at the very heart of the foundation of business.

The primary motivation for working that comes to mind is of course money, the paycheck we receive for putting in our hours. But, there is so much more to motivation than a simple paycheck, motivation differentiates successful companies from failing ones. So a thorough exploration of motivation would be very beneficial. Human Resources and Organizational Behavior have many theories and business policies to make sure that employees are well motivated, but these are beyond the scope of this study. We will look into the ability to motivate others as it relates to soft skills, being able to connect with others, communicate a vision and encourage them to move forward. Is it important to be able to motivate in this way? Is this way effective? How should this motivation be accomplished? This is not an easy task.

I intend to improve my ability to motivate, and an easy way to measure my effectiveness would be to see if I can motivate my peers in the Accounting Resource Center to talk less and study more. I hope that I can further develop this most important skill.
