This is my contribution to Sally Prag’s October Writing Prompt “The Bad Scare”. I have written 31 scary stories, increasing the word count by 1 every time. Hope you enjoy!
- Boo!
- Scared ya!
- Spooky. Scary. Skeletons.
- They were all dead.
- I’m home alone … Oh. Nevermind.
- Saw my face in the mirror.
- I’m home alone … Nope, ghost just arrived.
- They were all dead — or so I thought.
- “Hold on … did that pumpkin’s facial expression just change?”
- “I’ll take the plastic fangs” — “That will be ninety bucks”.
- I was hugging a tree — and the tree hugged me back!
- AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH!
- I’m home alone. Except for the zombie gnawing on my brain, that is.
- Pumpkins and skellies and vampires’ wings — these are a few of my favorite things.
- PROMPT: Write your own 15 word scary story and challenge others to do the same!
- Biting and sucking and all kinds of kinks — these are a few of my favorite things.
- Saw my face in the mirror — or so I thought. Hold on … WHAT HAPPENED TO MY REFLECTION?!
- I’m home alone. Nothing happens all night, but the objectless fear of the unknown keeps me up anyway.
- I read a scary story in an old magazine today. I realized too late that the story was serialized!
- An abandoned mall. The eerie glow of the fluorescent lights of a bygone era. Not every haunting needs a ghost.
- The oldest and strongest emotion is fear. And the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of an overused quote.
- When I was a kid, my parents bought me little chocolates for Halloween. Nothing scary here, I just wanted to say thanks.
- “What would you say if I carved eyes into your head, scooped your brain out and replaced it with a candle?” — The Pumpkin
- An eerie fog slowly crept up on me as I walked towards the castle. Luckily I enjoy fog, so this was not a problem.
- One day I will have done all the Halloween related writing prompts on Medium and fall into a black hole of meaninglessness and existential dread.
- “I will kill you!” — “But I’m already dead” — “I will resurrect you then!” (Dialogue excerpts from the upcoming paranormal sitcom I want to pitch to CBS)
- A scream. They went to investigate. Bad idea. Most of the time when there’s a scream, a mouth is close by. And sometimes, that mouth is hungry.
- An eerie fog slowly crept up on me as I walked towards the castle. Luckily I enjoy fog, so this was not a problem — or so I thought.
- I’m on the phone to customer support. After a mere thirty-five minutes, someone answers my call. “Hi, how can I help you?” At this moment, my battery dies.
- If you enjoy scary stories, make sure to read the amazing collections by Paul Combs, Aimée Gramblin and Simon Dillon. Click here, here, and here for hours of spooky greatness.
- An eerie feeling of déjà vu slowly crept up on me as I walked towards the castle. Luckily I enjoy the feeling of déjà vu, so this was not a problem.
Thank you for reading my stories, I hope you enjoyed them! If you would like to read more of my Halloween-related fiction, you can do so here …
