This is my contribution to Sally Prag’s October Writing Prompt “The Bad Scare”. I have written 31 scary stories, increasing the word count by 1 every time. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Boo!
  2. Scared ya!
  3. Spooky. Scary. Skeletons.
  4. They were all dead.
  5. I’m home alone … Oh. Nevermind.
  6. Saw my face in the mirror.
  7. I’m home alone … Nope, ghost just arrived.
  8. They were all dead — or so I thought.
  9. “Hold on … did that pumpkin’s facial expression just change?”
  10. “I’ll take the plastic fangs” — “That will be ninety bucks”.
  11. I was hugging a tree — and the tree hugged me back!
  12. AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH! AAAAHHHH!
  13. I’m home alone. Except for the zombie gnawing on my brain, that is.
  14. Pumpkins and skellies and vampires’ wings — these are a few of my favorite things.
  15. PROMPT: Write your own 15 word scary story and challenge others to do the same!
  16. Biting and sucking and all kinds of kinks — these are a few of my favorite things.
  17. Saw my face in the mirror — or so I thought. Hold on … WHAT HAPPENED TO MY REFLECTION?!
  18. I’m home alone. Nothing happens all night, but the objectless fear of the unknown keeps me up anyway.
  19. I read a scary story in an old magazine today. I realized too late that the story was serialized!
  20. An abandoned mall. The eerie glow of the fluorescent lights of a bygone era. Not every haunting needs a ghost.
  21. The oldest and strongest emotion is fear. And the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of an overused quote.
  22. When I was a kid, my parents bought me little chocolates for Halloween. Nothing scary here, I just wanted to say thanks.
  23. “What would you say if I carved eyes into your head, scooped your brain out and replaced it with a candle?” — The Pumpkin
  24. An eerie fog slowly crept up on me as I walked towards the castle. Luckily I enjoy fog, so this was not a problem.
  25. One day I will have done all the Halloween related writing prompts on Medium and fall into a black hole of meaninglessness and existential dread.
  26. “I will kill you!” — “But I’m already dead” — “I will resurrect you then!” (Dialogue excerpts from the upcoming paranormal sitcom I want to pitch to CBS)
  27. A scream. They went to investigate. Bad idea. Most of the time when there’s a scream, a mouth is close by. And sometimes, that mouth is hungry.
  28. An eerie fog slowly crept up on me as I walked towards the castle. Luckily I enjoy fog, so this was not a problem — or so I thought.
  29. I’m on the phone to customer support. After a mere thirty-five minutes, someone answers my call. “Hi, how can I help you?” At this moment, my battery dies.
  30. If you enjoy scary stories, make sure to read the amazing collections by Paul Combs, Aimée Gramblin and Simon Dillon. Click here, here, and here for hours of spooky greatness.
  31. An eerie feeling of déjà vu slowly crept up on me as I walked towards the castle. Luckily I enjoy the feeling of déjà vu, so this was not a problem.

Thank you for reading my stories, I hope you enjoyed them! If you would like to read more of my Halloween-related fiction, you can do so here …
