Yes, you gotta take your medicine every day. I am about to tell you a little story. So sit back, hold your breath, clip your nose, because this is going to stink…but you can’t avoid it anyway.

Once upon a time, there lived this person. Let’s call them A ... (feel free to conclude that sentence with your own adjective) Sweet as syrup, God’s gift to the world. Everybody loved them. They thought they scored a zero in the faults section and considered themselves perfect. So long as everything and everyone went their way, so long as their expectations were met, they were happy. Yeah, life is so hard, no?

They were a true believer in the “give and take” policy. As others gave, they took.

And then it happened

The day came when things did not go their way.

You see, that sense of entitlement is a weird thing. It leaves people eternally dissatisfied.

In the case of our A, if you were associated with them, you wouldn’t even be aware of what was going on in their mind. Suddenly they would decree that life was unfair and somehow you represented “life” at that moment, anyway.

Yes, you. You are at fault, even if you don’t have a clue why. And so, steeped in their own thoughts, they decide that you no longer serve their purpose. They feel the urgent need to move on. Maybe I meant escape? Avoid? Whatever.

They leave. And you continue to be clueless about what happened. You ask them. But they won’t tell you, because they want you to figure it out yourself.

Then slowly, they disconnect all connections with you.

Still clueless, and not a little perturbed, you overthink the situation. Stress yourself out. Because you can’t read their minds. (you’ll be thankful that you can’t, much later. Much, much later.)

Then finally, you’ll confide in a friend. Until that friend, tired of your whining, tells you to get over it and move on. You do.

Sometimes you are clever and get busy with other stuff, and allow Time the great healer to do her stuff. Yeah, Time is a She, didn’t you know? Time heals all wounds. Or wounds all heels. Whatever.

Or you stay stupid and keep sulking, prolonging the agony.

Oh, sometimes they will email you later listing all the things they disapprove of about you. And expect you to apologize, because they have such a big heart. And that’s when you wake up and realize what sh*ts they are. So toxic.

Sounds familiar? These situations suck. If it does sound like something you’ve experienced, please listen to that wise friend. Get busy, get over it, and move on.

Life is too short to be stupid. There are bitter pills to swallow, but you can’t avoid them.

Because you see, you can’t skip your meds, baby! It’s one of life’s little ironies.

Important takeaway: Don’t use a Q tip to clean your ear in a moving vehicle. It injures. It hurts. You’ll regret it. And you may end up in pain and with big medical bills. You’re welcome!
