Originating in 2013, the Santa Barbara Startup Weekend held its 7th annual startup competition in 2019 and the BAF team was honored to participate. The competition is focused on building artificial intelligence and blockchain startups in just 48 hours. BAF was asked to help source speakers, sponsors, and to help organize the event. The speakers and judges BAF sourced include Brian Fox (Author of the GNU Bash Shell and Co-Founder of Orchid), Barbara Bickham (Managing Director of Women’s Innovation Fund Accelerator), Alon Goren (Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Draper Goren Holm Ventures), and Elizabeth Kuka (Managing Director of Ethereum Classic). With the idea to leverage public blockchain technology data to incentivize traceable and transparent seafood, Kat Leigh from UCSB’s Environmental Science Graduate school presented the winning idea at the startup weekend. Congratulations to Kat Leigh and thank you to the Santa Barbara Startup Circle organizing a fantastic event! For highlights of this event, check out Tyler Hayden’s take on things in Independent.
