Highlighting the United States’ commercial presence in the Kingdom, US Ambassador to Bahrain, William V. Roebuck inaugurated ‘Discover America Week’. The promotion, which will run until November 27, will celebrate the popular culture and cuisine of the country as well as the deep-rooted friendship between Bahrain and America.

“The American Festival is a unique opportunity to celebrate the colorful, modern culture of the US which has so many admirers,” said a regional manager from one of the participating businesses. “Through this American Festival, we want to tap into this interest and bring the people of Bahrain and the American community here even closer together.”

The festival will showcase more than 2,500 American brands and products that the hypermarket promotes. In addition, many companies have come together to highlight the US’s commercial and technological prowess and its well-established and blossoming partnerships in the kingdom.

As part of the fun, there will be a parade of Harley Davidson motorcycles to give visitors a glimpse of the celebrated machines and offer a chance to experience a simulator ride.

Discover America is a week-long celebration of American commerce, including food, leisure, shopping, sports, tourism and more. Roebuck has said that Bahrainis and the American people share much in common, including a deep commitment to peace, family, health and heritage.

“The Kingdom is one of only roughly 20 countries worldwide to have signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States. We will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the FTA in 2016,” the American Ambassador stated.

Bilateral trade has expanded exponentially since the FTA entered into force. In 2014, the Kingdom of Bahrain exported $965 million of goods to the US, an increase of 52pc ($330 million) from 2013. “Bahraini exports to the US have increased 123% from 2005 levels — before the FTA entered into force. This is a great accomplishment and a symbol of how strong our bilateral commercial relationship has become,” Roebuck explained.

From art exhibitions and sporting events to food promotions and discounts on American-made products, there will be a variety of American cultural experiences during the event.
