Interior Ministry Suspends Several Employees For Mistreatment To Investigate Complaints By Inmates
The Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry announced on Friday that the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation has reviewed complaints by a number of inmates at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Center regarding mistreatment in the facility.
The Interior Ministry quickly carried out initial investigations and a number of policeman named in the complaints were subsequently identified and suspended. The case has now been referred to the Public Prosecution’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
The Undersecretary underscored that any and all complaints received by Ministry personnel, the SIU, or the Police Ombudsan are promptly investigated, followed by disciplinary or legal action where appropriate. He also stated that if the complaints currently facing the policeman are found to be true, they involve individual cases of misconduct that are counter to the principles and values of the Interior Ministry.
