Bahrain stresses importance of mustering international efforts

New York, Nov. 20 — (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain affirmed the importance of international efforts’ mustering to tackle the threat of radical sectarian groups to international peace and security.

The Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al-Rouaie — in his speech at the UN Security Council (UNSC)’s meeting chaired by its President the Australian Foreign Minister — said that the Kingdom of Bahrain in November 2014 hosted the Manama Meeting on combating money-laundering and terrorism-finance which discussed the challenges related to fighting all forms and manifestations of terrorist groups activities and finances and issued the Manama Declaration on combating money-laundering and terrorism-finances.

He added that the meeting reflected the importance of the challenge raised by the financial and banking dimension and international community’s efforts on combating terrorism-finances and suspicious fund remittances via three key themes: 1- effective enforcement of the relevant international resolutions primarily the UNSCs’ resolutions, 2- the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and 3- boosting cooperation in this field at the level of states or the concerned agencies, encouraging capacity-building, and exchanging expertise.
