The Kingdom of Bahrain has won two major awards from the United Nations Public Service Award 2014 in Seoul, South Korea, and ranks top 18 on the e-Government index, before many European and Asian countries.

The National Health Information System — I-Seha — has won the first position in the category of “Enhanced Public Knowledge Management” Systems for West Asia region in recognition of I-Seha System’s and its significant contribution in the development of public healthcare in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The system is operated by the National Contact Centre managed by Silah Gulf Company.

The Bahrain E-Government Authority (EGA)’s CEO Mohammed Al-Qaed who led the Kingdom’s delegation has received the award on behalf of the National Contact Centre.

Also, the Ministry of Health (MOH)’s Assistant Undersecretary for Training and Planning who led the Ministry of Health’s delegation has received the award on behalf of the National Health Information System (I-Seha) during the awards’ distribution ceremony at the Korean International Exhibitions Centre (KINEX) in Seoul yesterday in conclusion of the activities and the UN Public Service Awards/Forum 2014.

Minister of Transportation and Acting CEO of the Economic Development Board (EDB) Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed has also lauded the positive results achieved by the kingdom in United Nations e-Government Survey. Speaking during one of the workshops of the conference, he said that Bahrain was ranked 18 globally in the e-Government index, before many European and Asian countries.

The Minister extended sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, for such an exploit that adds to the rich record of landmark achievements attained by the e-Government Program thanks to the interest and follow-up of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology, chaired by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.

He also lauded the efforts of the committees in charge of following-up on the development of e-Government readiness, including the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the Central Informatics Organisation and the Ministry of Education. He also praised the efforts of the Health, Education, Social Development and Finance ministries to develop the kingdom’s e-Government readiness rankings.

CEO of the e-Government Authority Mohammed Ali Al-Qaed said that the survey included 193, noting that Bahrain topped Arab and Middle East countries in the e-Government readiness, ranked 14 in e-Participation and was among the first eight countries in the world in the Web index.
