Ministry of Housing to Build 5,000 Homes in Sitra

Manama, June1(BNA)The East Sitra residential town today got underway as the Housing Ministry officially signed an agreement to draw up the detailed blueprint of the project. The contract of the massive project has already been awarded to the Gulf Engineering House (GEH). A technical team representing the Housing Ministry has been assigned to closely supervise the process of drawing up the project blueprint.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa donated a 255-hectare land plot for the housing project to constructed.

Under the plan, 5000 to 6000 housing units will be constructed in addition to a range of service and industrial locations. In a statement, the ministry said that the reclamation work is expected to be completed within thirty months.

An agreement has already been signed with the Abu Dhabi-based National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) to undertake the reclamation work for the massive project in July.

Housing Minister Basem Yacoub Al-Hamer said the East Sitra Town is one of the strategic projects to meet the demands of the applicants who registered on the waiting lists in the Central Governorate. He paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa for issuing directives to construct 40,000 housing units as part efforts to meet demand. He extended thanks to all parties which cooperated with the ministry, paying tribute particularly to Deputy Premier and head of the Facilities and Services Committee Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa for his continuous support and directives.
