In the 6th edition of our bi-annual program, we team up with our clients to support nonprofit organizations that promote a more diverse and inclusive tech industry.

At BairesDev®, we know the importance of a diverse and inclusive tech industry and are committed to providing equal opportunities for talented people, wherever they may be. This is why we created our BairesDev Giveback Program: to ensure that talented people get the opportunities they deserve to shine, regardless of their backgrounds.

Our BairesDev Giveback Program (formerly called B-Grants) most recently won a Stevie® Award for Corporate Responsibility Program of the Year for its success in helping to uplift and empower underserved talent. Now, we’re doubling down our efforts with the launch of our mid-2022 program, aiming to achieve even more.

Through the BairesDev Giveback Program, we invite our clients to select from a curated list of NPOs (or to make their own suggestion). Then, we make a donation to the chosen organization on their behalf.

For this edition of the program, we are focusing on fostering the tech talent of tomorrow by helping to close the digital gap faced by underrepresented communities. The nonprofit organizations we’ve chosen for our donations share this goal, as each seeks to help diversify the tech industry.

In this iteration of the program, we’ve suggested the following NPOs to our clients:

  • Womxn in Power: An initiative to increase the number of Venture Capital being invested in Female Founders
  • EveryoneOn: An organization dedicated to connecting families in underserved communities to affordable internet service and computers
  • NPower: A nonprofit on a mission to move people from poverty to the middle class through tech skills training and quality job placement
  • Close the Gap: An organization that provides high-quality refurbished IT devices for social and educational projects in countries all over the world
  • LaunchCode: A nonprofit offering free tech education and job placement opportunities to bring new people from all backgrounds into the tech field.

One of our key priorities is to help build a more diverse and inclusive tech industry to increase diversity of thought, talent, and experience both inside and outside of BairesDev®. We strive to do this by expanding opportunities for talented people who are struggling because of limited access to education, or the right environment to preserve and develop their talent. That’s what our Giveback Program is all about.

Investing in the Tech Talent of Tomorrow

In our new largely remote or hybrid work environment, the implications of not having access to technology have become more and more severe, especially when it comes to preparing our youth for career success.

According to the World Economic Forum, 33% of American children living in lower-income households didn’t have access to a family computer in 2021. Furthermore, 12 million children in the U.S. didn’t have reliable internet access to do their homework. That’s a worrying statistic and a warning of an issue that society needs to address.

As a company, we recognize the importance of technology in empowering and uplifting young people to realize their full potential. We also know that raising the bar is challenging, and that campaigns to recruit, hire, and retain a more diverse workforce aren’t enough. It’s our responsibility to help shape the tech industry into the diverse and inclusive place that we want to see for ourselves and our talent.

We must make further, integral, and collaborative efforts to guarantee time-sustainable initiatives. From supporting events to donating to various organizations and sponsoring underprivileged communities, BairesDev has led several initiatives focusing on advocating for projects which provide support to vulnerable areas of our society and empower individuals.

Through our BairesDev Giveback Program, we are using our position in the industry to empower others and help foster the tech talent of tomorrow. Since the inception of the program, nearly 500 people from the tech industry have participated, and we look forward to growing that number with this latest edition. More importantly, we aim to keep raising awareness about these issues and strengthen our partnership with different organizations to build a more egalitarian society.
