Stupid Hackathon in review
With last year’s event turning out as fun as it did, we had to do it again. Here are some of the profoundly stupid products that came out of this year’s Stupid Hackathon.
Wrong Way GPS
‘Wrong Way’ is a neat GPS application that will only give you directions if you go, you guessed it, the wrong way. But then again it will provide you with amazing information like “turn around, moron” and “you are directionless, just like your life”. Why wouldn’t you want that.
See it in action here (warning, may contain strong language):
George Michael at your service
We all miss George Michael, so why not get him to call you? George Michael at your service allows you to schedule a call from George by entering a phone number, time and the correct mood. Why not light up the day of an old friend with the careless whisper of George?
We’ve all been there. Stuck in a boring meeting or at an awkward date where you just want to dig a hole in the ground and disappear. Fear not, just faint! With the help of Hyperventilization you can get out of annoying social interactions, or just enjoy the sensation of fainting in an instant.
AppStore: Any time now
Shrek yourself before you wreck yourself! Replace any face in a video or movie with the face of Shrek. Although annoyingly stupid, the script behind it is pretty cool. It extracts Shrek’s face in 3D from a 2D photo, and substitutes the pixels of a human face on any video with the edited Shrek face by using Position Map Regression Networks (PRN). Instead of waiting for Shrek 5, you can now just make your own.
The New App
The New App is a new app, that gives you a brand new app experience. That’s literally its only feature, because new apps are more fun than old apps. When the New App gets old, you can renew it for only $10 to keep it fresh. You don’t want to lose that new app experience!
Website: http://thenewapp.app/ (only works in stupid browsers like Safari)
Primate is a dating app for inmates, because prisoners needs love too. It comes with a nice and stupid twist though. When you match with someone you can only communicate through a set of pre-selected emojis, because emojis are more fun than words.
This app translate words into emojis as you type them. “Huh, that’s pretty handy,” you say? Not so fast. Emo-nator will of course select the emoji that means the opposite of the word you’re typing. Neat.
Wait, there’s more…
- Heart or Poop — an app for giving feedback to your friends; where you can only give bad feedback.
- 💃🏻📣 – a programming language using only emojis.
- Bookmarks 4 masochists — A tile flipping game where you have to get a match to retrieve your bookmark. If you miss, it gets harder.
- Mean Scream — a service for Twitch streamers which shouts out only the negative comments they’ve received.
- GDP — A GDPR compliant surveillance service that uses a real-time object detection system called YOLO to find and erase anyone from the recorded video.
Needless to say, this year’s Stupid Hackathon was a roaring success, reaching new and uncharted territories of stupidity. Until next year!
