A 7-mile run is more than just a physical feat; it’s an opportunity for self-discovery, reflection, and unexpected encounters. With unexpected challenges, this run was anything but ordinary.

I ran 7 miles yesterday and boy was it tough. Remember how I said I fuel and stretch and warm-up and get adequate rest? Well that didn’t happen. My friends came in town and normally I don’t fall into peer pressure but I’d already made up in my mind that we were celebrating so many things that happened over the past year. We even got some really good news that day so we just HAD to celebrate. The celebration did not equate to proper fueling and rest. I am tired right now writing this blog. Actually, I’m not tired I’m exhausted as eff but I will prevail.

I ate pizza and wings and I had two glasses of cab. I went to sleep late and woke up way too early. I was way too tired to go for a run. When I finally gathered the nerve to start my run my initial plan went out the window. I wanted to do a down and back but I found a trail that went alongside the river. I ran about 4 miles until I looped around to go back to where I started. My final 2 miles were brutal and they were on a track. I didn’t get the pace I wanted and it was apparent to me that I really needed to drink more water. However, I finished the run. I stretched, went home, and went to brunch with friends.

What could I do better next time?

  • Drink more water.
  • Don’t forget your earbuds.
  • Don’t drink alcohol the night before.
  • Don’t do leg day the day before.
  • Don’t do too many activities after you run.
  • Practice pacing at the beginning of a run.

What good things or lessons learned came out of this 7-mile run?

  • I remembered that plans sometimes go out of the window so I may have to pivot.
  • Preparation is the key to success.
  • I refuse to give up on my goals; the finish line is always in sight.
  • I got to chat with my best friend for about 3 miles of my run.
  • My heart rate settles down at the 3-mile mark.

As I catch my breath and reflect on the miles covered, I think about the lessons I learned during my 7-mile excursion. Each step was a testament to resilience, determination, and the unpredictable nature of life’s journey. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or simply curious about the joys of lacing up and hitting the road, I hope this story of my run serves as an inspiration to embrace the unexpected and find beauty in the ordinary moments of life. So, until the next adventure, keep running, keep exploring, and never underestimate the power of just putting one foot in front of the other.
