DINNER TIME

Every evening, Appu went to the terrace of his house to get some fresh air. His parents would walk and he always played with his toys. The family would have a good time.

On one such evening, it became dark and Appu’s mother switched on the terrace light. After some time, insects started coming and they flew around the light. Some fell down and some kept circling the bulb. Soon, a big lizard came from nowhere and started eating the flies that were on the floor. Appu got scared and called his mother.

“Mother, let’s go down quickly. The lizard might come in.”

His mother, too, got scared a bit but calmed herself. She said to Appu,

“Appu, what do you do when you are hungry?”

“I eat food.”

“Well, the lizard too is having it’s food,isn’t it? All living beings need food to live and so does lizard.Living beings can breathe,grow and move on their own. Humans,plants ,insects and animals are all living things.”

His mother further added,” When i switched on the light, The flies got attracted towards it and so the lizard caught all of them. You see, it’s a food chain. Insects are eaten by lizards and lizards are eaten by birds. That’s how the nature works. Come on, it’s late now. Let’s allow the lizard to have it’s dinner”.

Both smiled and went down.
