In a small village, there lived a bird. It was very beautiful and was adored by all the people of the village. The bird was very good looking. It was very colourful. It had a red beak, blue face, green wings, yellow body and a violet tail. It was fondly called as a Rainbow bird by all the people.

It visited people’s homes daily and would eat the food given by them. People fed grains to the bird and gave water to drink. It lived among people as a family and was very content. It lived in a nearby forest during night and stayed with people all day.

One day, a man from the city came to the village. He saw the bird and was very happy. He had never seen such a wonderful bird before. He was happy to see the bird but had a selfish plan in his mind. He thought “If i take this bird and sell it in the city, i will definitely get good money. I will become rich. I must buy a cage for this bird and leave for the city at once.” He found his way to the shop.

He asked the shopkeeper to show him the cage and chose the smallest one. The shopkeeper observed the man carefully and he understood what the man had in his mind. He was clever enough to understand that the smallest cage was enough for the smallest bird and that bird was the Rainbow bird.

As soon as the man left, he alerted the village people and everyone gathered to save the bird. The people left for the forest at midnight and whistled. The bird came out and was happy to see the people around it. The people conveyed to the bird what they had in mind. The bird understood and with a heavy heart, it flew away as far as it could from the village. The villagers were relieved to have left the bird to live far away from the selfish people.
