Let’s check in: What goals have you achieved this week? Not only are we a space to be ourselves unapologetically — but we are a space that helps fellow Bums hold themselves accountable.

So! How was your week? Are we caught up on homework? Are we reminding ourselves and others of our boundaries?

Also, are you caught up on content?

Let’s Catch Up!

No new content published this week. The work in definitely still in progress. I have a lot that I am ready to share but of course, with progress takes time.

Changes and progress very rarely are gifts from above. They come out of struggles from below.

Below are excerpts taken from Medium Original short stories written in the last 90 days. Click the links in each quote to read the full short stories!

“I was impressed. I found myself walking towards the “crack” Willow and looking up with my daughter. The cool breeze came back again. I close my eyes to take it all in: I saw the Willow at my old elementary school. I was six years old again, scared and fascinated at the beauty of God’s work.”

-Excerpt from Willows,2021

“Your partner’s running late.” Detective Bradley Annon says before Plessa could complete her thought. Her mind is elsewhere this morning. She’s imagining the night of the arrest. There are two tables now, places caddy corner where she cuffed Sammy Rudy. Everything was polished, the pieces of metal and wood swept from the floor. The tape no longer blocking the entrance to the stage. It was like it never happened.”

Life Is A Work In Progress

A couple of things to share with you this week:

The other day, my family and I sat around on the couch in our living room. As we all try to do at least three times a week. My brother, comes out of his room, sits down and says, “Hey guys, I just want all of you guys to know that I love you guys.”

I froze. Not because of negative suspicions of the nature of my brother’s declaration of love for his family. But because he has never said it before.

My brother is autistic. And with being autistic there were some struggles dealing with his emotions — Expressing them, dealing with them, or being able to comprehend someone else’s when interacting with others. And so for him at 25 years old to finally say I love you.

It was a lot. It was overwhelming. And thus, we overwhelmed him with rejoice. He didn’t understand why we reacted the way we did, but man was I so proud to hear that. And happy. I had to retreat to my room after drowning in the crashing wave of joy and cried.

I’ve always noticed his progression with stepping into adulthood. My brother has already proved many of times in his life that he is capable of doing many things. Mostly physical. But I could care less about that. I care about his progression with control of his emotions. About his independence. It’s amazing. He’s an example of progression being life long. I will always find myself in awe of his journey.

This week was interesting for my writing, because I didn't post — but I continued to work. I realize that my consistently is really struggling. But as a wise man says, without struggle there is no progress.

It’s only fair to practice to perfect my skills. That way I am confident in sharing my work — and the there’s a progression of traffic to my platforms.

In order to do that I know that a step at a time is my best bet. So what is my next step?

I joined Quora.

And —

I created a Linktree.

Facebook is still something that I’m waving in the air for another day. There’s something about having to take the initiative of posting business on Facebook that is embarrassing to me. I don’t know what it is.

Anyway —

I joined Quora because the platform is centered around asking and answering questions. I found that I don’t mind it now — especially if it’s a topic I actually know something about. I used to have anxiety about answering a question, like in class and I’d have this overwhelming fear of being astronomically wrong. Feeling the embarrassment of feeling like you’re not as smart as you believed yourself to be.

Quora also has hilarious memes. So those are fun to look at.

And Now, The Q’s

  1. What are some skills you’re proud to say you’ve made progress in this year?
  2. Are you a ‘ Slow and steady wins the race,’ or ‘Hit the ground running’ goal getter?

Until then everyone, Good day, Good night, where ever you are, and I’ll see you next week!

Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change — this is the rhythm of living. Out of our over-confidence, fear; out of our fear, clearer vision, fresh hope. And out of hope, progress.
