Congratulations Chance Becker, #BANDhasYourBack!
This season, BAND went on the look for exceptional young athletes who empower and inspire everyone around them. We asked coaches to tell us about an athlete that has inspired them and the rest of their teams to work harder and push forward in the face of challenges.
We were amazed by the incredible stories that coaches from all over the country sent in about their athletes. The amount of love and passion felt by the coaches who submitted was clear in every entry, and it has been very difficult to narrow down the list of deserving and qualified athletes.
BAND is very pleased to present our Recommended Athlete Scholarship to Chance Becker.
Congratulations, Chance!
Based on his skill, sportsmanship, and perseverance, Chance Becker has been awarded the ‘Recommended Athlete’ Scholarship by everyone here at BAND. We hope he continues to uplift his teammates and helps them to band together!
Chance and his team compete in freestyle, free dance, pairs, and quartet events on roller skates. This year, Chance is competing on the world stage together with three of his teammates.
When Chance was separated from his father at a young age, he became reclusive and practically mute as a result of the trauma. Even when his father returned home from military service, Chance would only interact with his family at first.
Through figure skating, Chance was slowly able to break out of his shell by bonding with the other kids. Whenever one of the group is struggling, the other teammates would step in and support them.
They’ve now been together for years, and help support each other in their own unique ways. Chance happens to be exceptionally talented at math and other academics, so he helps tutor the other kids on the team.
Chance has become stronger through the bonds he’s made with his teammates. He has made lifelong friends who helped him to rise up and persevere through additional struggles, including asthma and a broken clavicle.
After winning the National Championships, the team is preparing to compete at the international level in France. Chance and his team hope that roller figure skating will soon become an Olympic sport, so they can compete in the Olympic Games in the near future.
At BAND, we are inspired by Chance’s perseverance and dedication to figure skating and academic excellence. We hope that this scholarship will inspire Chance and the rest of his community to continue pursuing their passions and band together!
