Over the past four months, we have spent time upgrading the protocol, optimizing performance and simplifying user experiences across every element of Band Protocol. This is inline with our primary goal of creating a more elegant solution for dApps to consume off-chain data via Band Protocol. With this Kovan testnet launch we have made improvements in several key areas:

🚀 New Testnet Environment on Kovan Network

We have deployed the latest version of Band Protocol on Kovan, where most DeFi projects deployed their testnets. With a brand new environment, we will be able to facilitate the integrations with the partnering DeFi projects with ease.

👆 Protocol Level Improvements

  1. The query interface for accessing and integrating data is now more generic and usable. It now take bytes as an input and returns three arguments — output, updatedAt, and querystatus — instead of just returning one value in previous versions. This provides data consumers with more information and therefore more flexibility and ability to design their integrated applications how they want to.
  2. Introducing the web2.0 oracle API. This particular Band API allows flexible query and helps connect Band integrations with legacy oracle systems. This makes it easy to bootstrap new endpoint and test new applications.
  3. Increases in Token-Curated DataSource (TCD) efficiency. In previous iterations each individual data provider needed to submit data separately. Now data providers can aggregate data off-chain and send at once in batches. This means the on-chain interactions are significantly more optimized — providing better performance and savings in costs (such as gas).
  4. Band-solidity libraries now have an integration with truffle so developers won’t need to type query interface themselves for even easier deployment and utilization. Developer tutorials on the integration coming soon.
  5. Data Governance Portal now has a data explorer with built in activity logs. So cool, check it out!

📚 New Developer Documentation

The new documentation has far more information and examples on how to use Band Protocol in your smart contracts and how developers can benefit from data governance framework.

Developers start building today and reach out to us if you have any questions!

🌏 Band Protocol Website

We have launched reworked the messages and navigations so it’s easier for everyone of all experience to understand what Band Protocol offers. We hope you like it!

Keep buidling,
