Band Protocol has joined forces with Cosmos & Agoric to put together a virtual hackathon on Gitcoin that will leverage the new IBC (inter-blockchain communication) protocol aiming to change blockchain interoperability, forever.

Bundle up with fellow blockchain-enthusiasts, developers, hackers, friends and family during this global lockdown period to be a part of one of the biggest large-scale hackathons of the year! Find camaraderie, inspiration, excitement, friendship, joy and satisfaction from the comfort of your own home with the Gitcoin Cross-Chain Hackathon.

Hackathon Details

Join us in spreading the cross-chain interoperability pandemic across the entire blockchain ecosystem which will run for three weeks.

We’re excited to see what real-world applications or proof-of-concepts developers can build using the IBC protocol, Cosmos SDK, Agoric SDK and BandChain (also based on Cosmos SDK) which will connect all applications with a reliable data source.

📅 Date: 20 April — 11 May

👩‍💻 Registration:

🏆 Total Prizes: $24,500 in ATOMS & BANDS + 3 Ledger Nano X’s

What To Expect In Your First Virtual Hackathon

If you’ve never participated in a virtual hackathon before, here’s what to expect. Band Protocol, Cosmos & Agoric will provide education, training, and support throughout the entire length of the hackathon. You’re most definitely going to meet new friends and connections with the possibility of winning some money too.

A virtual hackathon is not a sprint — it doesn’t necessarily have the 24-hour intensity of an in-person hackathon (though feel free to schedule some all-nighters, if you’d like). It’s recommended to allocate your time sparingly over the hacking period; you can allocate your time sparingly to make progress on your projects without burning out.

Here Are the Tools

  • Band Protocol: A decentralized data oracle platform to integrate trusted off-chain information to your dApps using an open API.
Website | Developer Doc | BandChain Github
  • IBC: The standard for blockchain interoperability. IBC is a reliable, ordered, and authenticated protocol for relaying arbitrary messages between independent distributed ledgers.
  • Cosmos SDK: The world’s most popular blockchain framework. It’s modular, uses Tendermint BFT consensus, has staking and slashing, is built for IBC, and maximizes security for your application.

  • Agoric SDK: A platform that supports the development of smart contracts and market institutions across many different scales, from large public blockchains to small two-party contracts.

Prize Breakdown

Band Protocol— trusted on-chain data for dApps

  • Five challenges, $4.5k in total $BAND + 3 Ledger Nano X’s as a joint prize

Cosmos — build fast, secure blockchains & connect them over IBC

  • Four challenges, $15k in total ATOMs

Agoric — secure smart contracts

  • Five challenges, $4k in total ATOMs

Note: challenges will appear on Gitcoin’s price explorer, stay tuned!

The number of ATOMs & BANDs rewarded is based on the closing price listed on Coincap on May 15th.

Judging Information

Judging panel will be composed of experienced leaders from Cosmos, Agoric and Band Protocol who will review all submissions and participate in a vote.

The best submissions, as voted by the judges at the end of the hackathon, will be chosen as the winners!
