Joseph-Noël Sylvestre, “Sack of Rome”.

Civilization has come a long way. We like to think that we are living in one of the most advanced times humanity has ever saw. Technology makes us proud. There are so many things being discovered, healed, invented or improved.

But barbarism is around the corner.

Some wars are going on right now. Real people are being killed for reasons not much different than whatever caused a soldier to cut someone’s throat with a sword a thousand years ago. People are still being robbed, beated, cheated, attacked, fooled… everywhere. Society and democracy are suffering as well.

Bang is a publication dedicated to reporting true stories from extreme corners of the world. In-depth tales that seem outdated in the face of great achievements of our time, but that are still true — the ugly truth.

We will look at the great criminal issues of our time: corruption, human rights violations and blood crimes. We will not glorify crime and do not intend to make a living out of someone´s misery.

What we will do is use the best resources out there to say: this is happening right now somewhere. In order to do that, we will make an extra effort to make our work enjoyable, beautiful, even though we are describing ugly things.

Our principles:

  • We believe in responsible and in-depth journalism that is conducted with patience.
  • We will publish our stories in English and Portuguese — since we are Brazilian.
  • The reading should flow. Your time is precious and we believe that you don’t like to spend it with bad writing.
  • Designers, photographers and videomakers are our friends. Get in touch if you feel that you can help.
  • Distance is not a problem. If you want to write a story, pitch it, wherever you are. We already work far away from each other.
  • We work aperiodically. We will publish new work whenever it is ready. To be notified about new posts, follow us here on Medium, Facebook, G+, or Twitter.

Fronteira is journalism agency based in Brazil. We are always chasing great stories. Since 2011 we have writen for some of the largest Brazilian magazines, such as Superinteressante, Galileu and Piauí. We have published books and e-books, edited full-size magazines, done in-depth reporting and also told great stories in tiny spaces. We believe people will always be interested in things that happen around them (and around the world). Fronteira was founded by Alexandre de Santi, a reporter and editor, and Sílvia Lisboa, reporter and editor with large experience on science and health issues. They are both working on the field since 1999 and are the parents of Isabel and Francisco.
