Weekly updates from ‘Bank On It’ last, this and next week.

What is Bank On It?

It’s a twice weekly podcast where I interview fintech founders and the VCs who fund them. My interview style is fireside chat — like and the people I interview are amazing. Over the years I’ve interviewed hundreds of fintech founders and VC partners. All interviews take place in person at my studio located at the OpenFin headquarters located at 80 Broad Street (downtown NYC).

You can subscribe to my podcast here on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher and Spotify.

Why I created Bank On It?

Every guest asks me why I created the show. So here it is. Back in late 2014 I had brain surgery to remove a tumor. I created the show in early 2015 as a therapy framework to learn to talk again. I’ve never built a show before and early-on that was obvious. In the early days I wasn’t trying to build a massive audience, I was using it as a therapy outlet. My ‘why’ was so powerful I kept going even though no-one listened. During 2017–2018, I became a better interviewer and deeper conversations started happening. Then people started listening. It was a big transition to go from a therapy vehicle to the show as it is today.

Why is Bank On It different?

Before the surgery I was a digital banking consultant. I became verse in marketing and advertising world. Common practice was to get people to click on your post. I remember reading a post that 59% of posts shared aren’t read by the person who shared it. So what’s the point of doing it then? Well the point is to get high read numbers so that bloggers can sell ad space for a premium. To sustain that model you need to manufacture lots of click-bait. More clicks = higher price per click. This model made no sense to me because if I spend the time to create content, I want people to consume it. Today we have 9,000 monthly subscribers. Active subscribers who listen to me ask unique questions of amazing founders and VCs. I ask questions of guests you can’t find anywhere else, giving insights to who they are and how they think.

Episodes were in most fintech VC newsletters throughout the years. Even Fred Wilson’s AVC blog. If you listen to every show you’ll get a crystal clear view on fintech today and the people building it.
