John Wick — The Boogeyman

John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, is the protagonist in this movie who has just lost his wife, and now lives only with his dog who keeps him sane and keeps him speechless when other characters in the John Wick world ask whether he is back in business?

Is John Wick back in business?

The dog plays a crucial part in John Wick’s life essentially because when John Wick was at his lowest, the dog was the first thing that stepped on his doorstep after his wife passed away (The reason for Wife’s passing wasn’t clearly given but according to the villain, wife’s passing is the payment to all his past sins, but that’s obviously not true). This dog is later killed by Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen), son of Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvis), who kills the dog while attempting to take John Wick’s car. This is the point where Wick gets back in the business. The plot here is that Wick used to work for Viggo before getting married and settling down, whilst working for Viggo, Wick had pulled off Jobs that everyone thought nobody could pull off, which made him the formidable character that everyone feared. Now, his dog is dead. The vacancy that Wick that was created when Wick left is apparently filled by Iosef but clearly, he isn’t as wise as Wick was when he did his jobs.

What follows is a John Wick on a crusade to end Iosef and the repeated attempts of Viggo to prevent this from happening, one of his attempts is to hire Marcus (Played by Willem Dafoe) and Ms. Perkins.

Marcus

Willem Dafoe plays Marcus

The role of Marcus in John Wick is really strange. He is hired to kill John Wick, but is the one responsible for his continuous escape from the people hired to kill him.

Marcus is the one who alerts Wick when Ms.Perkins intrudes in Wick’s hotel room late in the night by shooting at his pillow while Wick is trying to sleep. He is also the one who shoots the key gang-members of Viggo who have been giving the task of killing Wick when they finally catch him.

Was he Wick’s friend or just keeping him as his target to kill?

Some questions are left unanswered such as Was he Wick’s friend or just keeping him as his target to Kill? Why was he doing all this? What’s the story between Wick and Marcus? But, in the end, Viggo catches Marcus and gives him a slow and painful death.

The role of Marcus was short, but it sure did play a pivotal role in the life of John Wick and his survival while being hunted down and having a huge bounty on his head put by none other than Viggo himself.

Adrianne Pallicki as Ms.Perkins

Although she has a small role in the movie, she does it well. She is a killer too, just like Wick, but a killer on a mission to kill Wick.

In her small role, she tries to kill Wick while he is trying to sleep, resting and recovering from his injuries late in the night. Wick, in his room, is warned of her presence by Marcus himself, who is on the terrace of the opposite building with his sniper gun. Why? Presumably because he wants Wick to himself. In a short fight that follows between Wick and Ms.Perkins, Wick wins, injuries are to both the sides but with a little help from Harvey who assures Wick that he will take care of her (He dies while making sure he does just that) while Wick is out doing his job.

But, let’s talk about her. All the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D fan will know her, and what role she plays. It’s brilliant. She’s every guy’s dream, a terrible dream, but dream nonetheless. She is the type of girl who won’t do all the drama but will go ahead and finish what’s troubling her herself while her guy is busy doing his work or wondering how to solve his girl’s problem? Isn’t that great?

It definitely is great how she does these roles. Her fight with Agent May in S.H.I.E.L.D and her fight with Wick in John Wick have left me speechless. She knows how to act in these fighting scenes, and leave us shell shocked in these fighting scenes.

She knows how to leave us shell shocked

In the story that follows, Wick escapes the attempt to kill him by Viggo’s gang members with some help from Marcus and his sniper gun, and catches Viggo while he tries to escape the warehouse where he had hoped he would find Wick’s dead body the next time he returned.

Threatening Viggo’s life, Wick gets the location of his son from the father himself. Iggo’s life has finally come to an end, partly because of his father, but that’s what you get when you kill someone’s dog, especially John Wick’s dog.

John Wick isn’t the Boogeyman. He’s the man he send to kill the (expletive) Boogieman!

For those who still haven’t watched John Wick, here’s the trailer and the release poster.
