Looking for open doors

The Markets neighbourhood in Belfast was strongly affected by The Troubles and is considered to be a nationalists’ area. During the first encounter when trying to meet people, the place presents itself as very welcoming — with doors open and no bells to ring, which creates a sense of strong and open community. However, even though the doors are open, not everyone can enter. This experience creates a contrast between the concept of an open door and feeling welcome.
