  • Unfortunately, fires can spring up anywhere — not just where you happen to be!
  • A stairway bannister is similar to a firehouse pole, but it hurts at the bottom.
  • Apparently your engine company will not — under any circumstances — swing by your house to pick you up on the way to a conflagration.
  • If a fire is 3.8 miles from your house, you will need 402 50-foot garden hoses.
  • If you’re a single car household and your wife takes the car to work every day, have some kind of emergency plan in case you have an urgent need to go buy a shitload of garden hoses.
  • Your average Ace Hardware stocks about 10–12 garden hoses, so always keep a list of 50 local hardware and home centers handy.
  • Juggling household chores, a colicky newborn and a 4-alarm warehouse fire is much harder than it sounds!
  • Make sure your Fireman contract has a “work from home” clause or the union might throw their hands up when you ask them to get your job back.
