If you’re in a car:

  • The light has been green for 0.04 seconds.
  • You were unwilling to run the yellow light as it transitioned to red.
  • You stopped for a red light.
  • You slowed down for a pedestrian.
  • You didn’t roll through the Stop sign fast enough.
  • You chose to obey a Yield sign.
  • You changed lanes before the other driver decided he wanted to.
  • You are physically occupying a space that the other driver wishes to occupy at the very same moment in time.
  • You are unwilling to ram a 30-ton garbage truck out of the way.
  • You allowed an elderly woman to clear your path before accelerating.
  • You are not accelerating fast enough.
  • Driver behind you believes he can relieve stress by creating bursts of loud noise.
  • You stopped for a crossing guard signaling you to stop.
  • You stopped for a policeman signaling you to stop.
  • You stopped for a fireman signaling you to stop.
  • You confused a driver by using your turn signal.
  • You are obeying the posted speed limit.
  • You slowed to a crawl while making a turn because you saw pedestrians taking advantage of the WALK sign.
  • You let someone pull out of a parking space.
  • You let someone pull out of a garage.
  • You’re behind a double-parked UPS truck.
  • You’re trying to parallel park.
  • Driver behind you hears an ambulance somewhere, so it’s your responsibility to get out of the way despite the fact you’re surrounded by vehicles and hostage to the laws of physics.

If you’re on foot:

  • You look like you might be contemplating crossing the street at some point in the near future.
  • You look like you might want a ride.
  • You look like you might be the one who ordered an Uber.
  • You stepped off the curb.
  • You stepped too close to car sitting in crosswalk.
  • Driver is 250 feet away but wants you to know he can see you crossing the street, just in case you were thinking about hanging out in the middle of it by the time he gets there.

If you’re on a bike:

  • Driver sees you in the bike lane.
  • Driver sees you’re not in the bike lane because the bike lane is blocked.
  • Driver sees you on a bike.
