With the convenience afforded by technology, it is no surprise that many organisations have been opting for management systems. Having physical files of hardcopy information compressed into a few documents online and easily accessed by other managers — what’s not to love about this?

However, in recent years, Singapore’s tech scene has once again come under the radar with several data breaches due to lapses in data security.

Remember what happened last year with SingHealth and their vendor, the Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS)? During that incident, lapses in security measures by the organisation led to the nation’s worst cyber attack in history — 1.5 million patients had their personal particulars stolen, and over 160,000 people, including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, had their outpatient prescriptions stolen.

It was just a few years back where the IT Vendor Finantech Holding was fined $10,000 for a lack of security measures because one of the administrator account’s password was simply “admin”.

Or how about something a little more recent — Singapore Red Cross’ database that got hacked just a month ago, where more than 4,000 blood donors had their personal information leaked?

In recent years, the use of technology has been proven to be a double-edged sword — as much as it conveniences us in our daily lives, we have to be careful in using it to ensure that we do not put ourselves in a position where we risk the security of our data.

As recently updated by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC), the PDPC has made it clear that there is value in personal data, even if it comes in the form of just names and addresses, and taken the first step to enforce this by dishing out heavy fines for organisations found to be out of line with the stipulated guidelines.

And yes, we hear you. We understand your concerns and rest assured, your information security is of utmost priority to us.

So the big question is — how is bantu protecting your data?

Our latest update gives you the security boost you need!

bantu Workspace is now SSL secure!

With our latest SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) upgrade, Workspace now has the strongest SSL encryption available in the market. We’ve increased security measures protecting your data from unapproved access and data corruption.

This commercial grade SSL:

  • Encrypts all your data during any data transmissions as you are interacting with Workspace
  • Comes with SHA-256 and 2048-bit RSA Keys, as well as ECC Support
  • Is compatible with all popular browsers
  • Has unlimited server licensing

Okay, so… What exactly does that mean?

Well, that means that all communication between the front and back end are protected.

All unsecured URLs (for example, http://bantu.life, http://www.bantu.life, www.bantu.life) are automatically redirected to the secure encrypted URL https://workspace.bantu.life.

All data sensitive and important information are encrypted to ensure your personal information is protected.

Additionally, we have always collected information only at the request of organisations. We know how valuable personal information is, and hence, we will not collect information of members that are not mandated by organisations.

In fact, SSL has been highly encouraged by Google — in recent years, Google has offered to give small ranking boosts to organisations who adopt HTTPS/SSL. This is to encourage everyone on the web to surf responsibly and safely.

Many big companies have adopted SSL — companies such as PayPal and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) have taken on this upgrade to ensure that their customers can make safe online purchases, and even schools such as the Georgia State University and the University of California (Berkeley) have adopted these measures to protect their students and staff from any potential data breaches.

All this because your data security matters to us.

bantu Workspace is now powered the highest level of SSL encryption available in the market. See it for yourself with our 30-days trial!
