What If Obama Never Happened?
American history as Afro-futurism

OBAMA
What if we never get Barack Obama in 2008? No audacity of hope. No speech in Philadelphia. No Black family in the White House. We still have an election. The election is between Hillary Clinton and Senator John McCain perhaps and one of them wins. Clinton probably wins as she is the great beneficiary of the collapse of the economy under George W. Bush and the corrupt conduct of bankers and investors. It is hard to say that President Hillary Clinton wins two terms. One never knows. Mitt Romney likely can beat her as her coalition was not as solid as Obama’s and his accomplishments (Affordable Care Act, Dodd-Frank Act, expansion of some key social programs) do not necessarily pass to her.
HILLARY
However, it is also true that they might pass some legislation though in 2010, she is also stopped in her tracks by the Republicans. Most of Obama’s work was done in his first term and the second term was one long lame duck term. There was immigration and the Dreamers but if Clinton is voted into office in 2008, maybe she does not take a risk and create the Dreamers. Maybe. Maybe she does health care. Maybe. But, maybe she can’t get anything done. Obama did do a few things and it was mainly because he almost got control of the House and Senate briefly. Clinton I doubt can pull that off. What is it she gets done? Something. Regardless, there are different outcomes.
NO TRUMP
Okay, I am going to say Clinton might not win a second term. She serves one term. Remember, the economy went off the rails in 2009–10. The stimulus package got it back on track. But, Obama was the great persuader in 2012 for re-election and he was able to slip by Mitt Romney. Can Hillary Clinton pull off the same?
On the positive side: there is no birther movement led by Donald Trump against Barack Obama because Obama never aspired to the office. There is no infamous White House Correspondent’s Dinner where President Barack Obama laid Donald Trump out before the American public, so Donald Trump likely never runs for President (if you recall, Trump decided to run right after that dinner). He ran in 2016 because things looked good for a…
