5 reasons to start meal planning
It’s midweek. You’ve just arrived home from the gym, or work. You’re really hungry after a big day. You look in the fridge… the shelves are bare.
You have a few options. 1) Order pizza. 2) Drive all the way to the shop to buy some food and then drive back home and cook it. 3) Spend all your money at that new thai restaurant. 4) Cook the packet of Mi Goreng that’s been in your pantry for weeks. 5) … just order pizza.
Trying to organise dinner when you’re short of time and patience can be very frustrating. We often make unhealthy choices when this is the case, or we spend money on takeaway.
Even if you like to make spontaneous choices in how and where you eat, as many of us do, there are numerous benefits to planning your meals in advance. Here are a few reasons why.
1. Helps you achieve your fitness goals.
Whether your goal is to eat healthier, get fitter, lose weight, gain muscle, or to have a diet that complements your exercise routine, being prepared is the key. This way, you can rest assured that you’re getting the nutrition you need to be able to perform at your best.
2. Saves money
This one is pretty simple — buying fresh food and preparing it yourself is much cheaper than buying takeaway or eating out. It’s also easier to stick to your budget. Even if you don’t have a food budget, you can treat yourself at the end of the week with the money that you’ve saved from not buying takeaway lunches!
3. Saves time
Cooking a meal or preparing a salad shouldn’t take more than about 30 minutes in the kitchen, and if you’ve done all of your grocery shopping already, you’ll reduce the amount of trips to the grocery store. Packing leftovers for lunch the next day is also a time-saving bonus.
You’ll also save the time that’s usually spent procrastinating over what to eat.
4. Encourages variety
A meal plan will ensure that you’re getting a variety of foods in your diet, rather than going back to the same old recipes. Mixing it up will add some excitement to your weeknights, and you won’t get tired of eating the same thing three times in one week!
5. You make healthier choices
Planning ahead will make you more accountable for your eating, and you will be able to concentrate on preparing nutritious meals. Choosing healthy recipes when you plan your meals will stop you from throwing together a quick and easy option that, more often than not, is unhealthy.
So start planning your meals, and you’ll be much happier with the outcome of your healthy choices. Rushed decisions don’t do well for many people, so a weekly planner to write down your options is a good place to start.
As well as this, make sure you’re getting the required nutrition to support your lifestyle. If you live an active life, try implementing WPI blends after your workout. A protein boost will help your overall wellness, energy levels, and immunity. They will also assist your recovery after exercise, help to combat hunger cravings, and assist with weight management and lean muscle building.
If you’re looking to boost your overall wellness, try having Bare Greens with water and a squeeze of lemon in the morning. The alkalising blend will start your day off with an energy boost and ensure that you’re getting enough greens in your diet to energise and revitalise your overall health.
Small changes such as these can have a huge positive impact on your health.
