“In these crazy times of the coronavirus, I am back in the wonderful world of bartering.”

Today we will share examples of outstanding barter deals.

2020 brought us not only sad and painful moments, but also positive ones. The economic, digital and digital-economic aspects of business have gone up. Barter is also on this list.

We present to your attention Heather Jax’s barter deals.

“In these crazy times of the coronavirus, I am back in the wonderful world of bartering.”

First, a little background.

Heather Jax works on a 19-foot bus. The situation with the fact that Heather had nowhere to park, take a shower, go to the toilet reminds her of life skills and she decides to “dust them off”. These skills open up the wonderful world of bartering for her.

1️⃣ Language lessons in exchange for free parking.

Driving up to one of the many fruit stalls in Bakersfield, Heather approached a man at a plywood table covered with rows of fresh strawberries.

She noticed a child neatly typing the letters of the alphabet in a workbook. The girl asked the child’s name, and the man answered for him: “Se llama Alejandro”. Suddenly Jax had an idea!

Pulling rusty words from four years of college in Spanish, Heather Jax said, “Esto puede parecer una locura pero ….” (I know this sounds crazy, but …) and the first of many such conversations, thankfully, did not start in Spanish. — Maybe I could help [051d1c43] Alejandro with his homework in exchange for parking my bus in your field for the night? And her first successful barter was completed.

Receiving a college diploma and a TESOL / TEFL certificate allowed the girl to repeat this exchange several times, practicing English with both young and old people.

2️⃣ Letters to the editor in exchange for parking.

Who would have thought that those typing lessons that were taken in high school would be useful?

During an overnight stay at Alpaca Farm, an elderly man named Charlie asked Heather Jax to type a letter to the editor on an “old-fashioned typewriter”.

3️⃣ Ability to drive a manual transmission in exchange for the Internet.

Northern Idaho is the land of Verizon. Heather had no internet connection in this state. Her GPS stopped working long ago.

In the distance, Heather Jax saw a tractor in a cornfield. She stopped and asked if there was internet in the area. The driver told the girl that they had the Internet in their house, and she in turn asked if she could use it. The guy nodded at her bus and asked if she knew how to drive a mechanic. The answer was yes, since the girl had a driver’s license for this type of car. Heather had to park the Chevrolet, and in exchange she was given a shower, restroom and internet.

4️⃣ Good handwriting for a shower.

The girl drove into a non-working hotel in the state of Oregano, there was an elderly woman from whom Heather asked permission to take a shower, and she, in turn, in exchange for a shower, asked to write invitations for her.

5️⃣ Website in exchange for a mechanic’s job.

Heather’s bus needed a new starter, but due to COVID-19, the choice of technology was scarce and too expensive. Heather Jax had a hard time finding a new starter and began installing it, which she did not do very well.

The guy who was not far from the girl told her that she was installing the starter incorrectly. The young people got to talking, and Heather found out that the guy needed a website, but for him it was difficult and expensive. The girl offers the boy a deal — she creates for him a simple website “Mechanic”, and he installs a starter on the bus.

6️⃣ Transporting a pig in exchange for gas.

For bringing the mini-pig to Lanning, Heather Jax was given gas for her car.

7️⃣ Work in the vineyards in exchange for temporary security.

Heather Jax worked in the vineyard clearing bramble bushes in Pleasant Hill, labeled wine bottles in Monmouth, and hosted tastings in Gaston. — For this she was provided with parking, electricity and a shower.

8️⃣ Horse grooming in exchange for “stable” accommodation.

The winery described above also had a stable. But in addition to all of the above amenities, Heather was also provided with food for caring for the horses.

9️⃣ Social media marketing in exchange for “stopping”.

Most ideas for making money on the road involve things like starting a blog and doing affiliate marketing, developing websites, and turning yourself into copywriters. The list goes on and on.

Social media platforms help travelers in marketing the places they visit and that provide them with amenities.

For the lodging provided, Heather had to create social media posts for the distillery’s new mead beer store.

🔟 Help catch fish in exchange for barbecue food.

This is not just fishing, this is fly fishing, which slightly complicates the task, because you need to know how to tie flies!

This ability also came in handy for Heather and she was fed with the caught fish.

💎 This story proves that any skill will help you survive, as well as help people you meet on your way and need support.

Barter is sometimes not just an agreement to exchange goods, but a whole world of transactions between people.
