On May 1st, basic income advocates from all over the world will celebrate Basic Income Day on Labour Day, in recognition of the need for it to become Machine Labour Day or the End of Labour Day, through automation and universal basic income.

There’s a social media action planned with the goal being to reach over 1 million people with the idea of basic income on the 1st. That’s the Thunderclap for basic income which you can register for here. Functioning kind of like Kickstarter, if at least 500 people sign up, then everyone will share the same message on their social networks, all at the same time, for maximum effect.

That’s another reason for the Thunderclap — to attempt to get #basicincome trending on social media, and so those wishing to take part are also encouraged to share prolifically on May 1st, with the hashtag attached to everything shared.

People are also encouraged to change their profile photos to reflect basic income, which they can do using the images here, or the Twibbon tool here.

Have a great Basic Income Day, 2016!
